More joy for Joe in saucy Thurles sprint

TRAPRISE

Making a return to Thurles on Saturday, Montore Joe confirmed his liking for the premier circuit when emphatically back to winning ways in a career best performance that sees the James Treacy speedster join the Open ranks as yet another potential local star on the sprinting scene.

Scoring in S2 grade at Thurles last month, he would chase home the John Byrne trained Knockalton Guy when third in their S1 clash at Shelbourne Park a week ago. However, with both staying closer to home this time, Montore Joe (Laughil Blake/You See Bolt) reversed that form in Saturday’s S0 330-yard event when back to his best breaking form.

Crucially housed on the inside of Knockalton Guy in Trap 3, the Treacy charge was immediately in command when leading on the long run to the opening bend and repelling his local rival, he would skip readily clear while galloping the turns at pace. Maintaining a powerful gallop throughout, he would defend a three-length advantage along the home-straight before registering a fourth career victory in a brilliant 17.82 (-10).

Quite lightly raced at 26 months of age, the victory confirms that if finding a consistency at trap rise, he can be a real force in the top sprinting ranks alongside the more established Knockalton Guy who lost little in defeat this time.
