Guilfoyle Golden trio sizzle at Shelbourne

Always likely to benefit for their opening round efforts in the Best Car Parks Gold Cup at Shelbourne Park, a trio of Pat Guilfoyle trained challengers returned improved performances with a wonderful brace of heat wins as the first major of the season in the capital was ignited in a sizzling session of quarter-finals.

Facing a tricky assignment in the third heat, defending champion Music Toour Ears (Droopys Jet/Glideaway Marina) was however ideally drawn on the fence and breaking well, he would dictate the pace on the inside in the opening exchanges.

Further out in Trap 5, kennel companion Cabra Firmino (Kinloch Brae/Cabra Smokey) had broken on terms and contested for second position in tight quarters throughout the early stages. Approaching the turn however, the latter would bravely advance to race on the tail of Music Toour Ears at the crown of the bends and the Guilfoyle duo would occupy the forecast positions to the back-straight. Ranging up on the outside, Cabra Firmino struck the front before halfway and stretching to a one length advantage before the third bend, the pair would gratefully negotiate their way to the home-straight without interference. Staying stoutly, Cabra Firmino returned a ready winner with three and half lengths in hand over the defending champion in 28.22 (+20).

Concluding the heats, Grangeview Ten (Zero Ten/Portumna West) completed the Guilfoyle double and the fastest early pacer in racing was back to his sizzling best when dominating high quality opponents in a resounding victory.
