Belle the boss in Byrne Thurles brace

TRAPRISE

Braving the elements on a wet and blustery Saturday in Thurles, trainer John Byrne was rewarded with a double and leading the way, the One For The Punters Syndicate’s Our Belles Boy (Belles Direction/Glenwood Cool) made a welcome return to the winner’s enclosure when dominating his A3 525 yard contest.

A very smart early pacer at the standard trip, Our Belles Boy had reached Open class for sprint distances and following a smart break from Trap 5, that sprinting prowess brought a crucial early lead as the Byrne charge built up a two length lead at the opening bend. Followed to the back-straight by Lisatunny Raven, that Tom White owned rival would give keen pursuit to the closing turns when still within that same two lengths before reaching the home stretch. Making no further inroads however, Our Belles Boy ran out a ready winner when posting 30.26 (-50) on a slow circuit, given the heavy going.

A two and a half length verdict in his seventh career victory will not bring a rise in grade next time and he looks set to improve his win tally in the very near future.

Quickly back into action for the A3 570-yard event, the kennels completed the double when Stephanie Ryan’s Express Hope (Laughil Blake/Express Micro) took advantage of an ease in grade while similarly dominant in a sixth career victory.
