TRAPRISE Gold Cup still within View for Guilfoyle

TRAPRISE

With charge of three semi-finalists in the 2020 Best Car Parks 525 Yard Gold Cup at Shelbourne Park, it was always going to be a huge task for trainer Pat Guilfoyle to repeat the phenomenal exploits of a week earlier in paw perfect quarter-finals and mixed fortune on Saturday sees only Grangeview Ten through to this week’s final from what was an astounding semi-final race.

From a level start in Trap 2, the Michael Hogan owned Grangeview Ten (Zero Ten/Portumna West) again proved too hot to contain as his blistering early pace saw him quickly take command of the race and when reaching the opening bend with a one and a half length lead over Music Toour Ears, all looked sweet for the Guilfoyle duo.

The latter however would become tight to the rail and lost ground while impeded upon turning and the defending champ was out of contention for a qualifying place before reaching the halfway point. Up front, Grangeview Ten blazed a trail to the closing bends and appeared set for victory even if his stamina limitations were sure to see his lead reduced.

Still with the call to the home-straight, the Produce Stakes champion would firstly have the Owen McKenna trained Malachi threatening his lead when staying strongly but finishing yet faster in behind was Ballymac Inspeed and that immensely talented Liam Dowling pup joined the leading duo in the shadow of the post before coming out on top in a three-way photo-finish.
