Darcy the star of the show at AIB Nenagh Tennis Open

Anne-Marie Darcy and Limerick man John Reidy won the Premier Singles titles at the AIB North Tipperary Senior Open Tennis Championships at Nenagh Lawn Tennis Club last week.

In the Ladies section, Anne Marie Darcy defeated Deirdre McSherry in the final. The tournament was a major personal triumph for Anne-Marie who also won the Ladies Doubles (with her sister Helena) and Mixed (with Kevin Rea), a feat not achieved in the ladies premier events in recent memory, if indeed ever.

Limerick man John Reidy is the new name on the Men’s Singles cup. He beat Kevin Rea in the final. John’s parents, also John, and Corinne previously played Nenagh Open Weeks in the past.

Pamela Scott (Limerick LTC), Mary Slattery (Nenagh), Derek Walsh (Limerick LTC), Aine McCarthy (Nenagh), Trish Carey (Birr Wilmer) and Billy Woods (Roscrea) each won two titles in their respective grades.

There was a really big entry, from outside the club and within. The club welcomed participant in varying numbers from all three Limerick clubs (Limerick LTC, Catholic Institute & Monaleen), Ennis, Killaloe-Ballina, Loughrea, Portumna, Tullamore, Birr Wilmer, Roscrea, Abbeyleix, Templemore, Larkspurk Park (Cashel), Kilfeacle, Emly, Dromahane (Cork), Mount Pleasant (Dublin) and Galway LTC.
