Tipp TD launches book on Bord na Mona
Tipperary TD, Michael Lowry, was on hand to launch a fascinating new book celebrating the rich history and lasting legacy of the Bord na Móna Littleton Works at an event in the Horse & Jockey Hotel on Friday, September 25.
The book, presented by the Moycarkey Borris Littleton Men’s Shed and Community History Group, documents the important role Bord na Móna played in the local community and captures the memories and experiences of the people who worked at and lived alongside the Littleton bog.
The publication provides a unique insight into the people, machinery and landscape associated with the Littleton works, while preserving the stories and memories of a significant period in the social and industrial history of the area.
Deputy Lowry said: "I praise the work undertaken by the Men’s Shed and Community History Group in bringing these stories together and ensuring that this important local heritage is recorded for future generations. This is a wonderful record of an important part of our local history. Bord na Móna was much more than an employer in this community. It was at the heart of the lives of many families and played a major role in the development of the local area.
