Impasse on Borrisokane street

Nenagh Municipal District Council is writing to Transport Infrastructure Ireland over the need for funding for Borrisokane's main street.

Cllr Michael O'Meara (Ind) conveyed the anger of local people at last month's meeting of the council. People have been very patient and were very disappointed to recently learn that the national roads authority has not released funding for an overlay scheme, he said.

In support, Cllr John Carroll (FF) said motorists have been zig-zagging to avoid potholes on the street. Cllr Joe Hannigan (Ind) said Borrisokane is nationally recognised as having one of the poorest main streets in the country. Cllr Ger Darcy (FG) said anyone driving the street in a tractor would know just how bad it is.

Director Marcus O'Connor said the council was anticipating an allocation for Borrisokane this year. That has not happened yet but there could still be an announcement made, he said, adding that the council would be writing a “strongly-worded letter” to the roads authority about the situation.
