Tracing Nenagh's former oldest resident

A woman living in Australia is seeking assistance with tracing her Nenagh ancestors, including her great grandmother, who was the town's oldest resident at the time of her death in 1948.

Anne Connors (née Mulcahy) of John's Place died at the age of 98. The Nenagh Guardian stated at the time that the widow of Michael Connors had “led an industrious life and earned and retained the esteem of all in town”.

Anne's great grand-daughter Janet Riley (née Dillon) will be visiting Nenagh in July as part of her research into her family history. Her paternal ancestors all came from Nenagh and she would like to find some members of the Dillon and Connors families living in and around Nenagh who might be able to help her fill in the gaps in the information she has found so far.

Her grandmother, Hanorah Connors, married Christopher Dillon of Nenagh in Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, England, in 1909. Christopher's parents were William Dillon and Ellen Ryan.

Ms Riley, who was born in Accrington, Lancashire, would love to know a little bit more about her ancestors, particularly her great grandparents. If anyone has any photos of them, she said she would be thrilled to see what they looked like. Ms Riley has been trawling through the Guardian archives and has managed to piece together some information about the lives her ancestors lived and the place they lived in.
