New nursing home on track for Nenagh

The developer of a new 90-bed nursing home in Nenagh remains committed to the plan with an anticipated delivery timeframe of 2030.

The three-storey private facility is to be located close to the recently opened 50-bed Nenagh Community Nursing Unit at Tyone. It is one element of a multi-phase plan by Lisbunny Developments Ltd that also includes 67 residential units, a crèche and a health centre.

The 67 residential units were completed earlier this year and have been “handed over” to the Respond approved housing body, according to the development company, which has sought an extension of duration of planning permission from Tipperary Co Council.

The Whitebox Group, of which Lisbunny Developments is part, said commencement of the nursing home, crèche and health centre was delayed given the need to prioritise housing. “The remaining buildings are to be delivered to different end-users and finance arrangements,” the development group informed the council. Construction work could not commence until the building sites were fully serviced, which they are now.

The applicant sought a five-year extension of the planning permission, which is due to expire this month. It told the council that it expected to complete all aspects of the development by the end of 2030.

“We have engaged with operators for the remaining buildings on site and, subject to the extension of duration being granted, are in a position to close terms with them.”

The council is to decide on the application by September 20.

The 67 Respond units are part of a wider housing development that Whitebox is involved in, which will ultimately see a total of 340 new houses built at Tyone. These are to consist of 193 private housing units and 80 affordable housing units, as well as the 67 units for Respond.

Respond has been asked to indicate when the new houses will be made available for occupation.
