‘Taylor is an inspiration to everyone’

Nenagh native, Ciara Morrissey wrote her first recorded single in honour of Katie Taylor, in the run up to her final boxing performance in Croke Park.

“Writing this song was my way of thanking her for all she has done, for all she has done for women and for the country,” expressed Ciara.

“She’s an inspiration to women, to everybody, she has inspired everyone across the country,” she explained.

“She made me think that sometimes things might seem impossible, but if you keep fighting and keep dreaming, these things can become a reality,” she reflected.

The Bray Bomber

“It was an end of an era for her really. I’ve followed Katie in recent years; I’ve followed her journey and watched her fight. The more I learned about her, and everything she has achieved, the more she inspired me,” expressed Ciara as to why she chose to write a song and record it in honour of Katie Taylor.

“The Bray Bomber explains what a powerful boxer she is,” summed up Ciara as to why she named her song the ‘Bray Bomber’, which she wrote over two days and later recorded in studio.

“She is some woman for one woman,” reflected Ciara, not only on Katie Taylor’s career as a boxer, but as to her character as a person as well.

“She has inspired so many people. The way she has broken down barriers, knocked down doors and kept pushing, to get what she believed in, what she wanted. Her achievements are just unbelievable,” she said.

Reaction to Taylor’s final performance

“It was very emotional. It really felt like the end of an era. Katie has just been a huge part of Irish sport for so many years. So many people have followed her incredible journey,” reflected Ciara on Taylor’s final performance in Croke Park. Ciara watched the fight at a packed stadium in Croke Park at home, which was broadcast on television to 1.6 million viewers.

“It was really a celebration of her achievements; she has given Ireland so many unforgettable moments and I think her legacy will live on for generations,” she said.

As expressed by Ciara, one of her favourite moments of Katie Taylor’s career would be when she won a gold medal in the Olympics in 2012.

“That was huge for the country. A female boxer getting a gold medal in the Olympics,” reflected Ciara, stressing her awe for Katie. “Her determinations, her strive, to keep fighting for what she believes in.”

“She deserved now to relax and have a happy retirement,” she stated.
