Plan for former pub in Nenagh

Further information has been submitted on a plan to redevelop the site of Nenagh’s old Malthouse pub.

An application in the name of Margaret Fogarty seeks demolition of existing derelict buildings at No 7 & 8 McDonagh St and construction of three two-storey terraced dwelling houses, together with associated site works.

The council received an objection to the plan from the owner of a nearby property, who claimed the design does not adhere to the character of the Rossa Place streetscape as outlined by An Coimisiún Pleanála, which last year refused permission for a similar plan at the site.

The applicant’s agent has said the buildings along Rossa Place have been reduced in height, while the roof design has been changed to match existing buildings along the street. “We are proposing signage to the front of the building along McDonagh Street. This will keep the existing shop front appearance along the street,” the council was told. “This demonstrates that the proposed building will fit in with neighbouring dwellings along the street.”

The council is to rule on the application by July 28 next.
