The Watch Centre Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship: started on Friday with four hotly contested games,
In Group 1, Kiladangan had 5-23 to 0-20 win over League champions Kilruane MacDonaghs in Toomevara.
Kiladangan started well and went into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead thanks to Tom Boland and Gavin McGrath points, but after eighteen minutes Kilruane had found their feet and lead 0-10 to 0-8, mainly from Brian O’Meara, Mark O’Neill and Cillian Healy.
Kiladangan began to make their stamp with two goals in sixty seconds from Tom Boland plus a third from Eoin Meagher in the 27th minute giving them a ten-point half time lead which was harsh reading on Kilruane.
A fourth goal from Ruari Gleeson in the fifth minute of the second half effectively killed the game as a contest with Kiladangan added a fifth through Eoin Meagher.
Toomevara and Nenagh Eire Og played out a cracking 4-16 to 1-25 draw in Cloughjordan.
Both sides traded early points but Toome began to pull away midway through the first half to lead by five but against the run of play Nenagh hit two goals before half time to lead by one point at the break, 2-7 to 0-12.
The second half continued in the same vein with Toomevara the more free-scoring team but Nenagh kept hitting back with goals. Following their third, Nenagh took a five-point lead, but to their credit, Toomevara goaled themselves with six to play and both sides traded points to play out a draw.
In Group 2, newly promoted Silvermines had a good 1-16 to 0-16 win over Borris-Ileigh in Shallee.
A sixth minute goal from Dan Ryan kept the sides separated throughout a very hard fought game. The ever reliant Orrie Quirke and Bryan Seymour helped the ‘Mines to a 1-8 to 0-7 half time lead with Borris-Ileigh scores coming from Micheal Carey frees and Tommy Ryan.
Both sides traded points in the second half but the ‘Mines kept that three point lead with Bryan Seymour top scoring with five points from play while Orrie Quirke scored 0-7, 5 from frees. Michael Carey, Cathal Kennedy and Jack Bevans were the main scorers for Borris-Ileigh.
