CD in aid of Hospice

By Anna Powell

Nenagh’s Tristan O’Rourke (35) has recorded his first solo album for titled ‘Tales of Solitude’ with all proceeds from the sale of CDs of the album going towards North Tipperary Hospice. Tristan has previously written and published music with his band “Through the reins”, but this album is his first debut as a solo artist.

Over the past three weeks, Tristan has sold over 100 CDs of his album, with all proceeds going towards North Tipp Hospice. Tristan expects for the remainder of his CDs to sell over the coming few weeks.

“The support for the hospice has been very humbling through it. I think the music is secondary to the support that it has received,” expressed Tristan.

“It’s probably a testament to the work of the hospice that so many people want to help. It been incredibly fulfilling to actually achieve what I have with it,” he expressed, highlighting his belief that people have been very generous in their support for North Tipperary Hospice.

Great support for fundraising CDs

“The support generated for the hospice has given the whole project a purpose that goes beyond the music,” he continued.

“I work out in the golf club, and the members were hugely supportive. A lot of people who have supported the project, they wouldn’t listen to Jazz Fusion as such, but they wanted to support me and the hospice,” expressed Tristan.

“I’m glad that I have completed it,” expressed the musician.

This album, which consists of nine different instrumental songs, took four months to complete.

“The entire album was written, performed, recorded and mix and mastered by myself, I’m the only person on the album,” he explained.

“’Tales of Solitude’ is more of an apt description of how I created the album. I wanted to do the whole thing on my own and I did achieve doing that,” continued the musician, highlighting how he had to learn a range of new skills to make this possible. I went into it to see what I could achieve musically without any constrictions."

A niche style of music

“My musical interest lies in jazz rock fusion. I get my enjoyment from music from pursuing the technical pursuit, more about harmonies, and altered harmonies, and unusual tonalities, a little bit more colourful sounds. It’s a very niche section of the musical market,” said the musician, going on to explain how this album became a personal project for him to work on.

“It was never a commercial thing to complete the album and I thought, how can I use the album for a catalyst for something good,” highlighted the musician.

“North Tipperary Hospice has helped so many people around here, that I feel like I had an opportunity to try and be a catalyst towards it,” he continued.
