‘Good’ bathing in Dromineer

Dromineer has been rated ‘good’ for bathing in the Environmental Protection Agency’s latest Bathing Water Quality in Ireland report.

The beach area in Dromineer is new to the EPA’s monitoring system. It has been included following an application from Tipperary Co Council to the EPA for the designation of a bathing area at the popular Lough Derg site. The council plans to have lifeguards on duty in the area this summer.

The EPA report found that 78% of the 153 bathing sites surveyed last year were of ‘excellent standard’. Only one was rated as ‘poor’.

The EPA assesses water quality information provided by local authorities for the beaches that they manage. Each year, local authorities take samples of bathing waters just before, and during the bathing water season. Water quality at beaches and lakes is classified as ‘excellent’, ‘good’, ‘sufficient’ or ‘poor’.
