Prime Physiotherapy opens in Nenagh

Helping every patient to move better, recover faster, and achieve their goals, Prime Physiotherapy is a new private physiotherapy clinic in Nenagh. Opened on the town’s main street by Cloughjordan man Michael Costello, Prime Physiotherapy offers expert, evidence-based care for people of all ages and abilities.

Michael is a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 15 years’ experience, working both in Ireland and internationally. He was in many ways inspired to enter the medical profession by his mother, Dr Róisín Costello, who ran a well-known GP practice in Cloughjordan for many years until her retirement, with the practice now continued by his sister, Peig.

Physiotherapy was a natural progression for Michael, an avid sportsman all his life, hurling at all levels with his local Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA Club before later transitioning into endurance sport, including triathlons and long-distance running. He is also very well-travelled and, having begun his physiotherapy career in Ireland, spent several years working in New Zealand and Australia, where he gained exposure to world-class physiotherapy and high-performance sporting environments.

Michael returned home and set his sights on establishing his own physiotherapy clinic, culminating in the opening of Prime Physiotherapy in Nenagh.

BRINGING EXPERTISE BACK HOME

Michael initially qualified with a first-class honours degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Limerick. He has since brought invaluable expertise home to the local community, including a Postgraduate Diploma in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, which he attained in 2016 through AUT University, Auckland, New Zealand. This is delivered by Manual Concepts, a globally recognised organisation specialising in advanced postgraduate training in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy.

This further developed Michael’s clinical skills in the assessment and treatment of complex musculoskeletal injuries.

Michael is a CORU-registered Physiotherapist, a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP), and an accredited CPSEM member, a designation awarded to Chartered Physiotherapists recognised as advanced practitioners based on their experience, postgraduate training, and expertise in Sports & Exercise Medicine.

His 15 years of experience includes work across private practice and high-performance sport. The Cloughjordan physio has worked with numerous New Zealand rugby teams, Connacht Rugby, inter-county hurling and football teams, as well as ongoing contract work with national governing bodies such as Rowing Ireland and Athletics Ireland. Michael is currently the Head Physiotherapist for the Offaly Senior Hurlers.

Last year, Michael had the honour of representing Ireland at the World Trail Running Championships in Spain, earning an Irish cap. Through both his professional work and personal experience as a runner, he has developed a strong interest and expertise in the assessment and management of running-related injuries.

SERVICES OFFERED

Prime Physiotherapy treats a wide range of conditions, from everyday aches and pains to elite sporting injuries, with a focus on getting people out of pain, improving movement, and helping them return to the activities they value most.

Michael’s approach focuses on identifying the root cause of a problem rather than simply treating symptoms. It is physiotherapy that embodies the principles of Progress (structured, measurable, and always aligned with what matters most to you), Precision (evidence-based physiotherapy tailored to each individual), and Passion – taking pride in supporting patients through every stage of their journey, from first appointment to full return to activity.

The brand new, bright, bespoke-designed and remarkably spacious clinic on Pearse Street features numerous private treatment rooms, a suite of new and innovative equipment, and a fully equipped gym and rehabilitation area.
