Ballina road reopening on target

The R494 between Ballina and Birdhill is on schedule to reopen in May, last week's meeting of Nenagh Municipal District heard.

Responding to Cllr Phyll Bugler, District Engineer Barry Murphy said there is still some work outstanding and two sets of traffic lights would be required on the road intially.

Cllr Bugler wanted to know if the council would receive funding for the R496, which she said has suffered a lot of damage as a result of catering for extra traffic.

District Director Liam Brett said the council has sought funding for the R496. Tipperary Co Council has sent a letter to the Department of Transport seeking additional funding for roads across the county following the sustained period of bad weather over recent months. A response is awaited.
