Ormond Octaves choir to perform with two local schools in much anticipated concert in Borrisoleigh on Friday night, April 28.

Borrisoleigh to host big concert

A MEMORABLE night of song, music and dance awaits as the Ormond Octaves Choir from Nenagh and singers from two schools in Borrisoleigh perform in concert in the Borrisoleigh Sports Complex on Friday night, April 28 (8pm).

Choirs from Scoil Naomh Cualán and St Joseph's College will combine with the 60-member four-part Octaves choir in what is anticipated to be a tremendous evening's entertainment, proceeds from which will generate much-needed funds for the two local schools.

The Ormond Octaves and pupils in the schools have been practicing for months for a performance that will feature some of the best-known hit songs down the decades as well as favourites from the modern era.

Looking ahead to the concert, Niamh Ryan, Founder and Musical Director of the Octaves, said it was a privilege for her and the members of the Nenagh based choir to sign and raise funds for the two local schools.

“The concert is just win-win for everyone, said Niamh. “The choir members just love to sing, the audience gets to enjoy a fantastic night of entertainment while at the same time having the satisfaction of knowing that the money they pay for their tickets goes back to funding education in two local schools.”

Michael Small, the Principal of Scoil Naomh Cualán, said the students and teachers in the school were “eagerly awaiting our Ormond Octaves concert in conjunction with our neighbours, St. Joseph's College, Borrisoleigh.”

“Excitement is building as our choir prepares for their performance,” said Michael. “To perform with a live orchestra and choir is going to be very special and I've no doubt it will live long in the memory.”

Michael said the event will raise vital funds that will be invested in the new school extension and ensure top class facilities for the children of Borrisoleigh parish into the future. “I would urge everyone in our community and neighbouring areas to come for a great night's entertainment and to support your local schools,” he commented.

Meanwhile, in a message issued by St. Joseph's College, the school thanked Borrisoleigh GAA Club for kindly making its Sports Complex available to host the event.

The college went on to say: “It’s a lovely experience to have a chance to co-operate with our Primary School neighbour on this joint school fundraiser. A quality evening’s entertainment is guaranteed.”

FAVOURITE NUMBERS

The Octaves will perform favourite numbers from U2, Coldplay, the Cranberries, Simon and Garfunkel, Billy Joel, Elvis Presley, The Greatest Showman, Lady Gaga and much, much more. The delightful mix of voices from the choir's sopranos, altos, basses and tenors makes for a truly unique sound that is bound to delight, all with the support backing of a wonderful four piece orchestra.

There will also be a number of solo performances from choir members, and of course the Octaves feel privileged that the superb tenor, Willie O' Brien, will appear with them yet again as a special guest, putting the icing on the cake to the concert, just as he has done when appearing at the choir’s  numerous performances in the past.

The contribution of the children and teenagers for the schools, in rehearsals for months for their big night, is hugely anticipated. Renditions by St. Jospeh's students of the Calum Scott hit, Your are the Reason; Wicket Game by Chris Isaak and the Adele hit, Skyfall, embellish the programme, as will the performance from the college's traditional music group and dancer.
