The funding has been welcomed by Nenagh district councillor John Carroll (FF), TD Michael Lowry and Fine Gael senator Garret Ahearn.

Senator Ahearn said: “There is no doubting the importance of these projects for the wellbeing and quality of life of local residents. As a county, we have embraced the great outdoors in growing numbers and I am pleased that Fine Gael in Government is playing a central role in facilitating the development of this important sector.

“The funding awarded will support small-scale local projects for investment in outdoor recreation facilities and the promotion of existing recreation infrastructure and I know this will make a big difference to local communities. Our investment in outdoor recreation facilities and infrastructure also pays a significant economic dividend. I would like to compliment the communities in working to make the applications and my Fine Gael colleagues at Tipperary County Council for highlighting the applications in their district,” said Senator Ahearn.

Deputy Michael Lowry welcomed the scheme's provision of funding for the development, promotion and maintenance of outdoor amenities such as trails, walkways, cycleways and Blueways. He said the funding would support small-scale local projects with funding of up to €20,000 each.

“The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme works in partnership with Fáilte Ireland, which co-funds the projects in partnership with the Department of Rural and Community Development. The development of new amenities and the enhancement of existing facilities is extremely important, and this investment is now allowing more and more people to discover and appreciate the facilities available on their doorstep within Tipperary,” he said.
