Plans for Toomevara works welcomed

Cllr Shane Lee has welcomed funding of €25,000 for works on the Main Square in Toomevara but says more needs to be done to improve overall safety in the village.

The Independent Lowry Team councillor said: "Since I was elected to Tipperary Co. Council, I have been contacted by several residents in Toomevara who expressed concerns that the village could be the scene of an incident works are not completed on the square.

"I am a regular visitor to Toomevara, and I have witnessed at first-hand how dangerous the village square is for pedestrians, and this is compounded with an increasing number of vehicles who use it regularly.

"Having raised this issue with officials I am delighted that funding of €25,000 is allocated for the resurfacing and relining of the main square area. When these works are completed to will allow for the safer movement for pedestrians, and the safer parking of cars during business hours and church gatherings.’

“While funding of €25,00 is welcome, I will continue to raise the issue of speeding vehicles through the village. I have raised this matter at Municipal District meetings, where I have requested a safety review of current traffic safety measures. Enquiries are ongoing and I will continue to engage with residents to have these matters addressed."
