Tipp poet features on Ireland Performs this week

The Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has announced the extension of Ireland Performs, the Culture Ireland scheme in partnership with Facebook Ireland which kicked into live action on April 13th.

A wealth of Irish artists have been sharing their talent with global audiences from their homes across Ireland. Covering music (Traditional, Rock, Pop, Indie, Folk, Classical, Opera, Jazz), theatre, visual arts, spoken word, poetry, circus/street, family and storytelling. Artists have used the opportunity to launch their EPs, books and connect with audiences where tour dates have been lost.
Tipperary’s Laurence O’Dwyer features as part of Ireland Performs. He will perform live, on Wednesday, May 20th, at 12.30pm.
Hailing from the Premier County, Laurence is an award winning poet whose first collection of poetry, ‘Tractography’ received the Patrick Kavanagh Award for Poetry in 2016. In 2019 he received the Van Cleef & Arpels Special Fellowship in Poetry from the Bogliasco Foundation for 'The Lighthouse Journal'. For his performance he will read from “The Lighthouse Journal” which he describes as an eclectic portrait of a remote and isolated Arctic island.
Each artist has an individual approach to the performance, streaming from their own chosen space. Viewers responded online from Australia, Tasmania, Japan, across Europe to the US and the follow up views for the performances post the live events continue to grow. All performances can be viewed live or watched back afterwards on the Culture Ireland Facebook page.
