Little Sophie wishes for life-changing surgery

The mother of a local child with cerebral palsy has set up a fundraising campaign – 'Sophie's Wish' – to help her daughter secure life-changing surgery in America.
Borrisokane native Sophie Breen (7) has Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. Her CP effects mainly her legs and causes pain and tightness due to the spasticity.
Sophie was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she was 3 and her condition has slowly been getting worse and deteriorating her health. But she has been accepted for life-changing surgery in America and will hopefully undergo SDR surgery next year.
Sophie's wish is to get the funds to go to America for the biggest and best change of her life. This surgery will change Sophie's life; it will stop further deterioration and reduce spastisity. The surgery will improve Sophie's movement and endurance.
It will also allow her to be more active and, hopefully, be able to get involved in sports and activities like all her friends. But, most importantly, it will save her from pain and discomfort.
“If anyone would like to organise a fundraiser or help in any way, it would be greatly appreciated,” Sophie's mother Edel Breen said on the GoFundMe web page, where a fundraising target of €100,000 has been set. “Any donations will make a massive difference to Sophie. We appreciate every donation and any help we can get, as we have a long journey ahead of us!”
