Friendships formed at Borrisokane Parent and Toddler Group
It's 10am Wednesday morning and the door is open in Borrisokane Library. The kettle is boiling and a warm welcome awaits. Parents and toddlers from the surrounding area are excited for the morning that lies ahead. By 10.30am, the library is bustling with people of all ages, various backgrounds and many interests.
Above the hum of friendly chatter, stories are read, experiences are shared, babies are massaged and children laugh as precious friendships are formed. A wonderful energy fills the room. This is the magic of the Parent and Toddler Group.
Every Wednesday morning, between 10am – 11.30am, The Borrisokane Parent and Toddler Group meet in Borrisokane Library, part of the Tipperary County Council Library Service in Fairgreen, Borrisokane.
We meet under the facilitation of Mary O’Sullivan, as part of the Community Mothers Programme of Silver Arch Family Resource Centre. Mary, Noirín, our local Librarian, and many friendly group members offer the warmest welcome you could wish for. The feeling of inclusion from the very first morning is undeniable as parents of every background and status come together for the friendship and support which we all need for our mental well-being, as parents. The benefits for the children are evident as the weeks pass, as they begin their own journeys in their individual social lives. A series of very successful Baby Massage classes were provided recently, and are due to start up again shortly. Storytime has pride of place too, with a huge selection of age-appropriate books to choose from. Parents also have access through the Community Mothers Programme, to Breastfeeding Support, 1:1 Parenting Support and Healthy Weaning information and workshops.
Alongside all of this, parents and children have full access to the many wonderful services provided through the Tipperary County Council Library Service.
