Nenagh scouts hold investiture

The first investiture of Nenagh Scouts for 12 years took place at the New Institute at the end of June.
Twenty-four Cubs and 20 Beavers took part in the end-of-term ceremony, at which they received neckerchiefs after formally agreeing to join Scouting Ireland. County Commissioner Robert Costigan attended the ceremony, along with Provincial Support Officer (Southern Province) Niall Collins, who helped revive the local group.
Nenagh Scouts got up and running again this year thanks to the dedication of a new committee over the last 18 months. The recent investiture ceremony was a celebration of the revived local movement, and the committee would like to thank all Scout Leaders, parents and children for making it such a good night. The following day, the Cubs and Beavers were taken to the Upper Limits adventure centre in Upperchurch for a bog hike, to use the climbing wall, and to abseil.
That's it for this term, but Nenagh Scouts will be back again in September and will be welcoming new members.
There are around 50 children involved at present between the Beavers (ages 6-8) and Cubs (9-11), along with 18 adult Leaders including Group Leader Caroline Mounsey, Cub Leader David Lewis and Beaver Leader Siobhán Donovan.
The group has partaken in numerous activities including orienteering in Castlelough Woods, building a chair, and instruction in knot tying. Next term will involve much more, with Leaders to take part in further training courses that will allow for camping excursions among other activities.
