Members of An Garda Síochána are calling on the people of Nenagh to get freezin’ for a reason this December and sign up for the annual charity Polar Plunge for Special Olympics. They are asking volunteers to leap into the lake at the University of Limerick Adventure Centre in Killaloe on Sunday December 7th to raise funds for the organisation.

The Polar Plunge is being organised by Killaloe-based Garda Hilda Moloney as part of her commitment to the Law Enforcement Torch Run, an organisation that has been in partnership with Special Olympics for many years.Garda Moloney said she is hoping to attract in excess of 150 plungers on the day with the first plungers due to take their icy leap of faith at 1pm.

This is a unique and fun way to raise vital funds for Special Olympics,” said Garda Moloney. “All of the money raised goes towards supporting over 2,500 athletes in the Munster region and ensuring that they continue to get access to sporting opportunities through competitions, leagues and interclub competitions. On top of that it promises to be good fun so sign-up today!”

Those interested in signing up for the Polar Plunge can do so at www.specialolympics.ie/polarplunge. Everyone who registers on line will be automatically entered into a draw to win an overnight stay with dinner at the five-star Castlemartyr Resort and Spa in Cork.
