Poker classic for nenagh teenager jonathan noonan

Nenagh teenager Jonathan Noonan was diagnosed in October 2012 with a rare cancer, Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, which meant that he had a tumor behind his nose the size of a grapefruit and a secondary tumor on his neck the size of a fist.
Jonathan was treated in Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin with six months  of chemotheraphy and eight weeks radiotherapy in St Luke's, in which it was thought that the treatment was successful. But unfortunately, six months later in September 2013 it came back as secondary Nasopharyngeal in his lungs, which meant he had seven tumors, four in one lung and three in the other.
Because treatment had failed, Jonathan was put on an experimental cocktail of chemotherapy and has for the last year has been receiving treatment. During that time Jonathan attended school in Nenagh College only 65 days in 2012/13 school year (second year) and he missed 65 days in 2013/14 school year (third year). Jonathan sat his Junior Cert in June 2014 while  still receiving chemotheraphy and, thanks to the the support of his amazing teachers, who went the extra mile to make sure he kept up and caught up with his studies, he did extremely well in the results.
So much so that at a recent TETB (Tipperary Education and Training Board) award ceremony, which embraces students from the 11 second level and three Youthreach Centres under the remit of Tipperary ETB, Jonathan received a Personal Achievement Award from Nenagh College.
Jonathan would like to thank everyone who has traveled this long road with him and supported him along the way. He would especially like to thank Bernie Ahern and Nan Kelly who are organising the poker classic this Friday. There will be a prize of €1,000 pro-rata and spot prizes. Tickets from Bernie Ahern and Nan Kelly or please  ring 087 6658600. Your support would be gratefully received. Thank you.
