Tipperary Racecourse Celebrates 100 Years of Racing

Large crowds attended the Point-to-Point evening at Tipperary Racecourse on Thursday, May 12th to celebrate the track’s 100th racing season.

Renowned nine-time Champion Irish National Hunt Jockey, Charlie Swan was guest of honour at the event.

Swan, best known for his partnership with legendary hurdler Istabraq launched the Centenary Gallery at the entrance to the racecourse. This walk-through photography display depicting racing images from the last 100 years will be available for racegoers to enjoy throughout the season. It features an entire wall dedicated purely to Istabraq.

Chairman of Tipperary Racecourse, Tim Hyde made a special presentation to trainer Mouse Morris who paraded his recent champions, Rule The World, winner of the Aintree Grand National and Rogue Angel, winner of the BoyleSports Irish Grand National.

There was also a parade by the Scarteen Black and Tan hounds along the racecourse at the front of the parade ring.

Tipperary Racecourse Manager, Andrew Hogan said: “We had a fantastic evening launching our 100th racing season with the sunshine and warm temperatures really adding to the atmosphere. The Centenary Gallery was very popular – it’s easy to forget some of the great names that have raced here at Tipperary in the past and it’s nice to have this visual celebration of our past. We’ll continue to celebrate throughout the season with eight meetings featuring six Graded races and three Listed races still to come.'
