Nenagh beat clonmel to set up harty cup showdown

Nenagh CBS came out on top in the only all Tipperary clash as they overcame Clonmel High School by four points in poor conditions at Templemore last Wednesday.

Nenagh's win puts their fate in their own hands heading into the final group game as only a win will do them in their final round, winner takes all clash with Cork outfit Midleton CBS on December 3rd.

After a closely contested first half, Nenagh CBS led by 0-10 to 0-8. The scores remained close all through the second half until a late Michael Brislane goal helped Nenagh to a hard earned four point victory.

Oustanding for Nenagh was Darragh Peters at a centre back along with Andy Loughnane in the middle of the park with Keith Nealon and Ruadhran Mulrooney shining in attack, contributing twelve points between them.

Nenagh are currently tied second on four points with Midleton with Hamilton HS Bandon on top spot and already through to knockout stages. Clonmel HS are out of this years Harty cup having failed to win a game.

Thurles CBS 2-15

Blackwater CS 3-3

Thurles CBS guaranteed top spot in group 1 with a powerful nine-point win over Blackwater CS, Lismore in Clonmel. Thurles got off to a terrible start falling behind early as Blackwater quickly put 1-1 on the board. They added another goal midway through the half to lead 2-2 to 0-5 points at half time.

Thurles burst into the game at the start of the second half when Kevin Duggan and Brendan Kelly both popped up with two quick goals to fire them into the lead. Blackwater nabbed their third goal with 40 minutes gone to leave themselves trailing by only a solitary point but it proved to be their final score as Thurles powered home with Niall Heffernan, Jack Butler and Robbie Long all getting on the scoresheet as they knocked over eight unanswered points. Thurles now march on the quarter finals as group 1 winners.

Thurles will be joined in the last eight by Ardscoil Rís if the holders can beat St Flannan’s in their last game.

In Group 3 wins for Rochestown College and P.S Youghal means that Our Lady's Templemore cannot reach the knockout stages.
