Captain Sean Bergin's Coolbawn connection

This Friday, February 16th, Kilbarron Terryglass Historical Society will host a talk - 'From Woodlands of Loughglynn; the Sean Bergin story and the Coolbawn connection'.

The talk by John Flannery of the Ormond Historical Society will look at the story behind the famous ballad 'The Woodlands of Loughglynn', which tells of the death of Capt Sean Bergin, from Nenagh, which occurred during an engagement with British forces during the War of Independence.

At the time a local RIC man, Sgt Jack Moran, was linked with the death. Using archive material from the time, John Flannery will piece together the facts of the incident, which had dramatic fallout for several years after the event. Some interesting artefacts connected with the events will be on display on the night.

The talk takes place at 8pm in the Pavilion, Ballinderry, on Friday night and is open to all. Members €2, non-members €5.
