Frances Long presenting a sponsorship cheque to OSOC Athletes

Surprise visitor for Ormond athletes

Ormond Special Olympics Club Athletes received a Christmas surprise at their final training session of the year at Nenagh College.

Frances Long from  Urlingford again ran the Dublin Marathon in 2017, and delighted all the athletes by presenting to them a cheque for €850, which she had raised by way of sponsorship.

Frances is an active member of Moyne Athletic Club and her niece, Aisling Nolan, is an Athlete in Ormond Special Olympics Club. Frances has competed in two marathons and four half marathons in recent years to raise funds for OSOC.
She told the club that she had prepared for the latest Dublin Marathon by starting heavy training back in May. On the day of the marathon she ran alongside colleagues Deirdre Kearny and Breda McNamara for the first 15 miles, eventually going on to finish the race in a personal best time.

The club is particularly grateful for this generous donation at this time as it is currently undertaking a number of fundraising activities to help pay for eight club Athletes selected to travel and stay in Dublin as part of the Munster Athletics Squad for the Ireland Special Olympics Games over four days in June 2018.
