Celebration of apples and community in Cloughjordan
Got apples? It has been a great year for apples and this Saturday, September 23rd, you can juice your apples at the Apple Festival and Community Fair taking place in the Eco Village at Cloughjordan.
The festival - Féile na nÚll - will feature exciting and varied talks and workshops, all open to the public. There will be delicious local food and natural product stalls, pony rides, and tours around the Eco Village, its orchards of heritage apples, and the community farm.
This exciting programme of special events kicks off at 11am in and around the Enterprise Centre, which is located off the Shinrone Road entrance to Eco Village. Bring your apples for mashing and pressing and, if you have an apple pie or tart recipe you are proud of, consider entering the Apple Bake contest.
Highlights include an engaging workshop at 11.30 on our relationship with money, with North American money coach Karen McAllister, and a preview of young local playwright Joanna Ryan-Purcell’s adaptation of 'Children of Lir' will take place on the spectacular new Community Amphitheatre at 3.30pm.
Join us too for the evening extravaganza that is the one and only ‘SpeakEATsy’, a unique evening of music, poetry, food and interview-style conversation. This event is so much more than the sum of its parts. Enjoy a shared bountiful autumnal meal, experience original music from young up and coming duo Jack O'Meara and Sam Warmington and singer songwriter Maggie McEntee.
Poet Mel White, winner of the Cuirt Literary Festival Poetry Slam, wowed audiences at the Electric Picnic this year with her dynamic, enrapturing delivery - truly something to behold. Reggae and world music sound system Pressure Drop will close out the evening with MC Suzanarchy. Amongst this all, a compelling conversation will be held with professional surfer turned organic farmer Fergal Smith of Moy Hill farm.
SpeakEATsy is also a fundraiser for the Cloughjordan Community Farm, the only community owned farm in Ireland.
