Tipp walkers raise funds for Tanzania

Pictured is the presentation of a cheque for €21,700 to Eamon Brehony (MMM African Project Manager) on the 29th August at the Kostal plant, Abbeyfeale.

This €21,700 is the  proceeds from the Kostal 26k Black Valley Hike, which took place on June 10th last through the foothills of the MacGillycuddy Reeks under challenging  weather conditions.

Eamonn Brehony returned to Africa on Tuesday 5th September, and work  will now commence on phase one of the Rock Water harvesting  project. It is due to be completed by December 2017. In January 2018 phase two will commence with the building of an accommodation block for staff at the MMM clinic in Nanga, Tanzania. When  building work is completed the Tanzanian Goverment will appoint extra medical staff to the clinic .
The cost for the MMM project is €129,000 and the €21,700 proceeds from the Kostal Black Valley Hike has enabled further funding of €90,000 in aid from the Irish aid agency Misean Cara to help complete the project. The local community in Matangarimo, Tanzania, will contribute €13,000 (by way of labour). This leaves a shortfall in funds of €4,300.

To help raise  the shortfall of €4,300, a poker classic will be held at the Friar’s Tavern, Lorrha, on Sunday 24th September at 5.45 pm. Val O’ Meara is kindly organising this poker classic and Val can be contacted at 086 2244776.

Many thank to all who  supported this project.  A special thanks to the Nenagh Guardian, members of the Nenagh walking club 'Aonach ar Siúl' and the Mid Tipp walkers for their great support over the past ten years with different hill walking challenges in support of various Tanzanian projects.
