New bed extension for Tipp hospital

The Minister for Health, Simon Harris, has announced that South Tipperary General Hospital, in Clonmel, is to get a new 40-bed modular build extension. The unit is part of a package of measures which aim to substantially expand the hospital’s capacity to treat patients.

Minister Harris said: “I’m very aware of the challenges facing South Tipperary General Hospital, particularly in the ED, having visited myself not long ago. That is why I am pleased to be able to announce that the construction of a 40-bed modular build extension to the existing hospital will now proceed to tender.”

In advance of this development, I am glad to confirm that the HSE has completed the fitting out of additional space for 11 trolley bays on the first floor of the hospital. A recruitment process is now underway for the additional staff required to operate the new area and it’s anticipated that this vital additional space will open next month.”
