Appeal to help re-roof Nenagh's Scouts Hall

Nenagh Choral Society is inviting members of the public to sponsor a 'square metre' of the new roof it plans to provide on the Scouts Hall.
As you may or may not be aware, Nenagh Choral Society recently refurbished the Scouts Hall. This building was a community hall built in 1937 and it served the community of North Tipperary.
Now, 80 years later the society is replacing the roof. The hall has a terrific history as the centre of much of lower Ormond's cultural and social life. The hall has been a local landmark for several generations and holds special significance for many local organisations and individuals.
Nenagh Choral Society conceived the idea of the Scouts Hall project in February 2012 with the project becoming a reality and work commencing in May 2014, with the hall finally completed with an official opening in January 2015. The project was financed by the society's funds, a bank loan and the “Sponsor a Chair†initiative, which was greatly supported by the general public.
This summer (2017) NCS will place a new roof on the Scouts Hall and remove the original asbestos roof which has been there since 1937. Over the years, this roof has deteriorated with various remedial work and patches applied over the last decades. The asbestos roof will be professionally removed and disposed of with all Health & Safety aspects adhered to and replaced with an insulated Kingspan roof.
The works will be overseen by the Tipperary Energy Agency, which has also given a grant towards the project, as energy savings will be a feature. The project will cost about €100,000 and will be part financed by means of (1) a Grant (2) a Bank loan (3) Society funds and (4) this fundraising initiative, to hopefully make up the shortfall.
The fundraising will be in form of “Sponsor a square metre of the roof†campaign.  To this end, Nenagh Choral Society is looking for sponsorship of €20 per square metre.
To acknowledge the sponsorship, a plaque of sponsors will be placed in the Scouts Hall and this will be an everlasting recognition of your very generous assistance in placing the new roof on the Scouts Hall.
Ger McCarthy, Chairperson of the NCS Board of Directors, said: “I am so grateful to the general public to date for all their support in helping us getting the Scouts Hall up and running. We now believe it's time to move forward and re-roof the hall.â€
Mr McCarthy said Nenagh Choral Society is very conscious of the current economic climate that exists in Ireland but feels the necessity is there to continue to bring the hall to modern building standards and make the Scouts Hall a landmark community hall in the centre of Nenagh. “We look forward to continued support from  the public in helping us fund this large project.â€
If you would like to get involved in this exciting and necessary project, you can do so by completing the form in this week's Guardian. You can pay by cash, cheque or pay directly to the NCS bank account as indicated on the accompanying application form. Any individual can sponsor more than one square metre if he/she wishes. The society hopes to raise €25,000 through this fundraising initiative and a 'barometer' of progress will be visible outside the Scouts Hall from commencement.
Remember, sponsoring a square metre can be useful for a variety of reasons. For example, it could be used as a birthday present, Christmas present, remembering a loved one, in memoriam, giving recognition to a former local who has departed the area, recognition of your children, recognition of your parents, recognition of a family, special occasion, Scouts Hall memory, christening present, friendship or a host of other reasons.
Note that Nenagh Choral Society is an approved body under revenue guidelines for the 'Charitable Donation Scheme'. This is an opportunity for you, the general public, to be inextricably linked to this community project that will be always known as the Scouts Hall.
