Nenagh band wants Market Cross bars returned!

Newly formed Nenagh band Mid Life Crisis have written a song lamenting the loss of the corner bars at the town's Market Cross.

Four musical friends – Tommy Foley, PJ Connolly, Davy Richardson and Larry Richardson, with a combined age of nearly 240 years – got together to form a band called Mid Life Crisis. Playing rock, country and acoustic classics – the music that they love – the band performs charity gigs.

The boys will release their first single on April 30th with the title 'Where did they put the Market Cross bars?' They have reworked the 1979 hit by The Buggles called 'Video Killed the Radio Star' to celebrate the Market Cross bars.

The Mid Life Crisis lads believe that the Market Cross bars are a huge loss to the town and that they should be restored, as they offered four corners of great banter in their day. The lyrics to their song go as follows:

I saw you leaning there back in '82

Slagging the passers by and they were slagging you

You'd pass the hours away, it was something to do

Oh-a-oh

The lunchtime hooter, aluminium factory

They'd cycle past you headin' for the sup of tea

You'd still be there on their return journey

Oh-a-oh

It was relaxin'

Oh-a-oh

And not too taxing

Where did they put the Market Cross bars?

Where did they put the Market Cross bars?

Watchin' cyclists, trucks and cars

Oh-a-a-a-oh

And now today you have nowhere else to go

Nowhere to lean and slag the local latchicoh

Nowhere for lads like you to lean and take it slow

Oh-a-oh

Where did they put the Market Cross bars?

Where did they put the Market Cross bars?

Watchin' cyclists, trucks and cars

Oh-a-a-a-oh...
