Call to take part in Nenagh's St Patrick's Day parade

Preparations are well underway for this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade, according to Cllr Hughie McGrath.

The Independent councillor, who oversees the Nenagh Parade Committee, along with the support of the Nenagh Municipal District and Tipperary County Council, is urging community and voluntary groups as well as sporting organisations to take part in next month’s national holiday.

Cllr McGrath said: “The committee are delighted with the support coming from the locality and they have received very positive encouragement to continue running the parade. On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank Nenagh Municipal District for ensuring that the eighth consecutive parade can be facilitated in 2017.”

The Nenagh parade has been growing steadily since a local committee revived the event after a six-year absence in 2010. Since 2010 more than 50,000 people have lined the streets of Nenagh to view our parades and the 2017 parade promises to be even bigger and better. The parade will again take place on Friday, March 17th, starting at 2pm.

Once again he Nenagh parade will feature a wonderful mix of bands, vintage motors, floats and entries from our local community and beyond. There are also plans for street performers, art displays, and face-painting on what promises to be one of the best days out of 2017 for the all family. Nenagh will be looking its best on the day, with the town bedecked in flags and bunting, and shopkeepers are again encouraged to have their premises looking extra colourful and festive as they have in past years.

Cllr McGrath added: “We had a great array of entries in last year’s parade, representating interests from music and dancing to art and motors, sports, food, serious and humorous displays, all firmly establishing Nenagh as the place to be to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.”

He urged participating groups to come up with some creative ideas that will entertain an expected audience of over 7,000 people. The local parade committee are now inviting entries and appealing for volunteers to help showcase Nenagh’s community spirit at its brilliant best on St Patrick’s Day 2017.
