Ordination of new Bishop of Killaloe this Sunday

A large number of local participants will feature in the ordination this Sunday of Father Fintan Monahan as Bishop of the Diocese of Killaloe.

The Tullamore native's Episcopal Ordination will take place at the Cathedral of Ss Peter and Paul. Former Bishop of Killaloe, and current Archbishop of Cashel and Emly, Kieran O'Reilly will be the principal consecrating Bishop. Concelebrants will include Willie Walsh, Bishop Emeritus of Killaloe.

 

Among the choirs performing on Sunday will be St Mary's Choir from Nenagh and the Cistercian College Choir, Roscrea. Soloists include Aoife Daly of St Anne’s Community School, Killaloe, and Richard Bourke from Lorrha.

 

Ann Heffernan of Cloughjordan will participate as a commentator, while the entrance procession will involve Nenagh's Michael Kelly, Aileen Byrne, Anna Dillon, Siobhán Darby and Jack Maher. Invocation of the Holy Spirit will involve a Liturgical movement by students from St Anne’s Special School, Roscrea.

 

The Book of the Gospels will be read from by Noreen Spain, Kilruane, while Lorraine Shaw of Roscrea will participate in the Intercessions.

 

The entrance ceremony will also include young people carrying water from the Holy Wells and Sacred Sites across the 58 parishes of the diocese.
