Rail trip to Limerick on Ice

It's that time of the year again when Nenagh Rail Partnership organises its annual train trip to Limerick on Ice for communities living along the Ballybrophy to Limerick rail line.

Because of the event's success over the years, the partnership has once again decided to put on three trains covering Roscrea, Cloughjordan, Nenagh and Birdhill / Ballina / Killaloe.

The Roscrea group will travel on Wednesday, December 30th, on the morning train leaving Roscrea at 10.27am. For Cloughjordan, the group will travel on Thursday, December 31st, leaving at 10.47am. The Nenagh group will travel on Monday, January 4th, leaving at 11.07am. Anybody from Birdhill / Ballina / Killaloe can travel from Birdhill on any of the dates, leaving at 11.35am. The return train from Limerick leaves at 4.55pm each day. Limerick on Ice is booked for each group from 1pm to 2pm.

Virginia O'Dowd of Nenagh Rail Partnership said that once again the group had obtained a fantastic reduction both from Limerick on Ice and Irish Rail.
'We are getting in to Limerick on Ice at a flat rate of €10 and Irish Rail is offering return tickets at €6 per adult and €3 per child from any station along the Ballbrophy line. I want to thank both for their continued support for this annual community event,' said Ms O'Dowd. The normal rates for skating are €16 for adults and €14 for children.
She pointed out that the only stipulations for getting the reduced entry to the skating was the production of a valid rail ticket for that day. She also stated that parents should be aware that children must be over three feet tall to skate.
While each community is hosting a specific day, this does not preclude people from travelling on any of the days, or travelling more than once.
'The trips always prove to be a great opportunity for communities to come together and have a fantastic day out,' said Ms O'Dowd.
