Aldi plans to establish store in killaloe

The discount multiple Aldi is planning to open a store in Killaloe, it has emerged.

Aldi has unveiled plans to construct a single-storey discount foodstore, including off-licence, with a gross floor area of 1,655 square metres, and a car park for 122 cars.

It is estimated that the store would have a turnover of €9.12 million in 2018.

Traders in Killaloe opposed to the store have asked Clare County Council to reject the plan.

They point out that the towns of Killaloe and Ballina are already well served by three existing supermarkets. They fear the arrival of Aldi would result in the closure of smaller stores.
