Killavilla close in on title as rivals slip up

The North Tipperary & District League Premier Division resumed last Friday evening with title challenging Killavilla United welcoming holders Thurles Town to Villa Park.

The home side secured a 4-2 win to move four points clear at the top of the table but were made to work hard for the three points. Joe Moloney had given Villa an early lead but a Pat Lawlor brace for Thurles gave them the lead heading into the break. Joe Moloney added two more in the second half for Villa, either side of a Paul Kirwan finish, to complete his hat-trick and secure a valuable win for the Roscrea side.

The other three games across the top division ended in draws, with a point suiting the aspirations of none of the teams involved.

Nenagh Celtic were looking to keep in touch with Killavilla at the top of the table but they dropped points in a 2-2 draw away to Borroway Rovers. Mark Walsh and Michael Hynes scored first half goals for Celtic but Tom Rykala and Jake Moore were on the score-sheet for Rovers to earn them a share of the spoils.

BT Harps were looking to take three points from their trip to Drombane on Sunday to play Clodiagh Rangers but ended up rescuing just the one. John Carew kept up his good form to put Clodiagh ahead at the break before Jamie Bergin found the equaliser for Harps ten minutes from time as they trail Killavilla by eight points with just one game in hand.
