Aaron Savage was in fine form for Nenagh AFC in the loss to Janesboro

Nenagh edged out by Janesboro as Newport go top

Nenagh AFC produced a much improved performance in unluckily going down 1-0 to reigning league champions Janesboro in the Limerick District League premier division on Sunday.

On 77 minutes and in the ascendancy, Nenagh were on the receiving end of a controversial decision by the referee who awarded Janesboro a penalty when two of Nenagh players slid across the goalmouth to make a block but the referee deemed that there was handball involved and up stepped prolific marks man Shane Clarke to fire the ball to the roof of the net.

Division 1B

Newport Town went top of the table with a terrific 6-0 defeat of third-placed Geraldines 'B' on Sunday in Derryleigh Park.

Christy O’Connor opened the scoring with a strong header from a corner swung in by Kalem Harte in the tenth minute. Newport extended their lead in the 13th minute when Elliott Slattery fired home a super free-kick.
