Track-Attack going from strength to strength

In an era where physical activities both at competitive and recreational levels have been largely replaced by technology driven implements, there is an argument that it is now imperative that we get back to basics and get people of all ages out inhaling fresh air and spending time doing the most natural form of activity that will obtain a minimal level of fitness that would lead to a long term improvement in the general health and well-being levels throughout our country’s communities.

Running and walking is the most simple and affordable form of exercise that anyone can do. In July of 2014, Track-Attack was set up in Borrisoleigh and in the consequent years, the club have formed into one of the biggest community initiatives seen in County Tipperary in recent years.

Track-Attack has no parochial boundaries. Although its home hub is situated in Borrisoleigh, its membership is drawn from a much wider area that scatters to many corners of North Tipperary.

Amongst the original aims of the club were to create a club based on community values, to encourage and promote a healthy lifestyle amongst all potential members, to encourage all members of the community into the club irrespective of age, gender and ability and to encourage and promote the involvement of all family members in club activities.

What had transpired from humble beginning of its opening night is now unrecognisable from what is happening within the club. On that opening night in 2014, a total of 34 people turned up and participated on a track that was 780 metres around the new hurling field that had been just developed by the local GAA Club.

On Monday night last (7th January), 359 people participated on a track that is now 1.3km in length and fully lit up and free to use by all on the dark winter nights. As the club heads towards its fifth birthday, it continues to promote simple physical fitness and in the process organise some very popular events within the Premier boundaries.
