Tess completes Magical career start at Galway

A busy schedule over the past week brought success for a host of local kennels which included the wonderful victory of Pat Guilfoyle’s Magical Tess (Taylors Sky/Magical Prentiss) in the 2018 Flaherty Markets Corrib Plate as highlight of the greyhound action at Galway amidst the racing festival in the city.

The prestigious graded stake saw the January 2017 pup make her debut in the opening round when announcing herself as a big prospect before improving in each outing to reach the final with a perfect set of three wins from three starts.

Hot favourite to land the final on Thursday, Tess overcame a tricky draw in Trap 3 when her exceptional early pace saw her lead on the run to the first bend and turning with clear racing room, she would quickly settle the race when streaking clear into the back-straight.

A five length lead off the second bend would increase with each stride thereafter as the Moneygall youngster returned a facile twelve and three quarter length winner when stopping the clock in a brilliant 28.78 (-20). A wonderful career start now sees her obliged to compete at the very highest level of the sport going forward and is yet another in a string of classic hopefuls to emerge from the Guilfoyle kennels in recent seasons.
