Tipperary GAA Scene for 8 January

By PRO Joe Bracken

As we settle into the second week of January and this is the first GAA Scene of 2019, Happy New Year to all supporters and readers and best wishes to all at club and county level for every success in the year ahead.

CO-OP SUPERSTORES MUNSTER LEAGUE

Tipperary's second match in the Co-Op Superstores Munster League against Kerry proved to be a productive outing as the Premier county progressed to the final on a 4-20 to 1-14 score-line in Nenagh last Saturday. Goals from Jason Forde (Silvermines), Mark Kehoe (Kilsheelan-Kilcash), Noel McGrath (Loughmore-Castleiney) and Patrick Maher (Lorrha-Dorrha) ensured a Tipp victory. Congratulations to Barry Hogan (Kiladangan) and Killian O'Dwyer (Killenaule) on making their full senior debuts and also to Robert Byrne (Portroe) who came on as a second half replacement.

The result means Tipperary will contest the 2019 Co-Op Superstores Munster Hurling League Final against Clare in the Gaelic Grounds Limerick, this Sunday, January 13th with throw-in at 2pm. Extra time will be played if necessary (Result on the Day).

Best wishes to the team and management in the Co-Op Superstores final, as the opening Allianz league fixture will be against the same opposition on January 26th next.

HANDBALL

The Tipperary Cumann na mBunscoil finals were hosted by Youghalarra and Nenagh clubs last Saturday, with entries from 14 schools including over 50 players and 25 games of handball. There was a huge turnout of supporters with both galleries packed to capacity. Ardcroney N.S. dominated all the girls' finals while the boys were shared out between Crehana N.S., Lissenhall N.S., Gaelscoil Carrick on Suir and Ballina N.S.

The games co-ordinator Paddy Collins thanked clubs and officials for hosting the games and all who helped out with refreshments and especially all who refereed games on the day. He wished the winners going forward to represent the county in the Munster finals in February the best of luck. Full results of the games are on the Tipperary Handball website http://handball.tipperary.gaa.ie and click on the Cumann na mBunscoil page.

Next weekend are the championships with the North finals being hosted by the Nenagh club and the following week the county finals will be hosted by the Cashel club.

WEST DIVISIONAL PROGRAMMES NOW ONLINE

With the uploading of West Tipperary divisional programmes and match reports to the Tipperary Studies website, the project of digitising match programmes for this collection in Tipperary Studies is now almost at an end. It has been a mammoth project which could not have been achieved without the support of the Tipperary GAA Co. Board, and the four divisional boards of Mid, North, South and West Tipperary. The support of the local press in allowing match reports to be digitised was also invaluable to the project and allows for greater interaction so thanks also to the editors and staff of the Nationalist, Nenagh Guardian and Tipperary Star. Thanks also to Liam Hogan and Joe Lonergan who gave in loan copies to fill in gap areas. The following are some combined figures, for county and divisional finals, which show 315 programmes have been digitised incorporating 8,351 page scans. In conjunction with this there are 322 local press pages giving an account of numerous match reports relating to many of those finals.

The collection may be viewed at www.tipperarystudies.ie/sport If anyone has programmes which they wish to loan to a member of the digitisation team to fill in a missing issue please contact 076 1066131.

NEW CODE OF BEHAVIOUR LAUNCHED FOR THOSE INVOLVED AT UNDERAGE LEVEL

Croke Park has issued the new Code of Behaviour (Underage), which highlights the levels of behaviour that the GAA seeks from those who are playing, coaching, officiating or attending our underage games.

Packed with 10 different sections the Code of Behaviour (Underage) has been updated to reflect recent child safeguarding legislative requirements that are now enshrined in its Rules and in the day to day organising of its games.

Sections include guidance on maintaining appropriate levels of behaviour when working with children and young people, how to promote the Code and also deal with breaches of the Code, useful guidance on recruiting coaches and managers for underage teams, how to plan away trips, the Club child safeguarding statement, dealing with bullying of children and young people, social media guidance and how to report any concerns or allegations of abuse.

The Code of Behaviour (Underage) applies to all of the Gaelic Games Associations - GAA, Ladies Football, Camogie, Handball and Rounders - and may be downloaded at https://www.gaa.ie/the-gaa/child-welfare-and-protection/
