Tipp Under 21 hurlers All Ireland semi-final had been put back by 4 days

Senior replay alters Tipp plans

The drawn All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship semi-final between Clare and Galway had the potential to impact massively on Tipperary, both county and club.

Firstly, the replayed semi-final which has been fixed for next Sunday at Semple Stadium in Thurles (2.00pm) forced the postponement of the All Ireland Under 21 hurling semi-final between Tipperary and Galway which was scheduled for Ennis this Saturday.

Galway have four under 21's on their senior panel, two of whom have featured in the championship this year, including Sean Loftus who played the extra time period against Clare last Sunday.

Rescheduling the game had the potential to wreck Tipperary County Board's plans to play the second round of the senior and intermediate hurling championship on the weekend of 10-12 August, if the under 21 semi-final had been put back a week.

However, both Tipperary and Galway were keen for that not to happen and agreed to reschedule the semi-final for next Wednesday, 8th August at 7.30pm, with the match moved from Ennis to the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick for the provision of floodlights in case extra time is required. The other under 21 semi-final goes ahead as schedule this Saturday with Cork meeting Wexford in Kilkenny.

The outcome of Tipperary’s under 21 semi-final will determine how the club schedule will pan out for the rest of the autumn.
