Templederry fighting for Alannah

Alannah Sheehan is a name that more and more people are becoming familiar with over the last number of weeks, as her heart-breaking story becomes known far and wide.

Through Alannah’s own searingly honest Instagram page (worth_fighting4) and her friend Jennifer O’Connor’s GoFundMe page (worth_fighting4), set up for Alannah, the 32-year old mother of three has been at the centre of many conversations being held the length and breadth of the country. None more so in the last three weeks than in her own parish of Templederry where a committee has come together with the goal of raising both awareness of Alannah’s story and her GoFundMe page, and hopefully a nice amount of money to contribute to the Sheehan family.

The hope is to ease the financial stress in this difficult time and help Alannah and her husband Martin create many happy memories together with their three children, Finn (5), Luca (3) and Phoebe (eleven months).

You can read Alannah’s story on her Instagram page and watch the wonderful and inspiring interview she gave on Ireland AM on Tuesday, September 15th, back on the Virgin Media Player.

TEMPLEDERRY COMMITTEE
The parish committee called Templederryfighting4Alannah now has serious fundraising plans underway to try and boost the funds already gathered in the GoFundMe page, which has a target of €150,000.
The details of all these events can be found easily on the group’s Instagram page - @templederryfightingforAlannah - which will also allow people to click on direct links to Eventbrite where people can register for both the free events (Track O’Treat), the paid events (Virtual 5k Fun Run) and the donation events (Come Dine With Me).
These events will run over the course of the week of October 24th, ending on Saturday, October 31st. There will be spot prizes randomly raffled for anyone that sends in tagged photos to the group’s social media pages.
The details of the virtual Come Dine With Me are simple; cook up a storm or get a takeaway! Have a date night with your partner, spouse, child, cat, dog! Dress up fancy or wear your PJs!
It’s entirely up to you! The important bit is that you remember to donate through the Eventbrite link and have fun! Alannah (who is herself a chef) is hoping to provide some inspiration for dishes on the night, which will be posted up on the group’s social media pages.
Anyone interested in running, walking or crawling the virtual 5k for Alannah has the week to do so and if so wish can send in photos to be in with a chance of winning a spot prize! This is a paid event and is on Eventbrite at a cost of €10 but people can donate more if they desire.
Like the Come Dine With Me, this is a virtual event and the committee are asking everyone to adhere to Government guidelines regarding Covid-19 at that time.

TRACK O'TREAT
On Saturday, October 31st, a Track O’Treat event will be held at the new walking track at Templederry GAA grounds. This free event will run from 4pm-9pm and 20-minute slots can be booked on the Eventbrite page also at Templederryfighting4alannah-trick o’ treat. There is a maximum of 15 people allowed on the track at any one time.
The event will involve a walk around the spooky track, where you never know what ghouls or witches will be seen! There will also be a pumpkin carving competition on the night!

SCRAP METAL
The men in Templederry parish have come together and organised a scrap metal collection, which will run over the course of a few days: October 23rd, 24th and 26th from 10am to 4pm each day. The drop-off location point is the old creamery yard in Templederry (E45 RD42).
It is hoped that a lot of people from both within and outside of the community will use this opportunity to do bit of a clean up and clear out while at the same time help raising funds for such a brilliant cause!
The committee would like to express a heartfelt thanks to each and everyone for showing their support. This is testament not only to Alannah and her family but also to the goodness of human nature in these uncertain times. It is truly amazing what the power of the people can do and how it can lift the human spirits.
Stay safe everyone and remember to donate what you can if you can.
