Wonderful amenity in Terryglass

The opening of Terryglass Community Hall took place on Saturday, October 17.

There were approximately 70 local residents and guests who attended, including Ryan O’Meara TD and his partner Maggi Gibadlo.

The community hall has undergone a major renovation project over the past nine years. The final phase of the project was the replacement of the main hall’s timber floor inside the 300-year-old former church, school and - since the early 1960s – community centre.

The new floor included a subfloor of 150mm new insulation, 75 concrete floor screeds, and an oak sprung dance floor with an acoustic underlay. New feature lighting was installed, and there was also a complete redecoration which will allow for multifunctional use for many years to come.

The stage also received a major overhaul with new curtains, stage lighting, front-of-stage lighting and a new full stage with a cinema projection screen, a projector and a sound system. This will now allow the very successful Terryglass Film Club to expand in numbers, as the hall can now accommodate up to 200 people seated, for films and concerts.

THANKS

Robert Foyle, current chairman and project manager, thanked everyone who attended the evening and gave special thanks to Deputy Ryan O’Meara who took on the appeal on our behalf, and successfully obtained the approval for our grant application.

Robert also gave thanks to the contractors and suppliers involved, also to the Terryglass Community Hall Committee, as well as residents in and around the parish who support the community hall and its functions and facilities. A special thanks went to Fleetwood Paints, supplied through Lynch’s of Portumna, who most generously supplied all the paint and Fleetwood products.
