These include 487 applicants in the town of Nenagh. Elsewhere, Ardcroney has 15 applicants, Ballina, 65; Ballingarry, 5; Borrisokane, 49; Cloughjordan, 30; Kilcommon, 1; Lorrha, 11; Newport, 62; Portroe, 30; Puckane, 14; Rathcabbin, 4; Rearcross, 5; Riverstown, 4; Silvermines, 7; Templederry, 0.

The figures were presented at last week's meeting of Nenagh Municipal District. Cllr Fiona Bonfield (Lab) wanted to know what percentage of housing applicants are already in accommodation through HAP, RAS and other housing schemes.

Housing Officer Sean Lonergan said around 65% of the 789 housing applicants are in receipt of social housing support. He also informed the meeting that there are 58 vacant houses in the district, 17 of which are available for letting.

Cllr Séamie Morris (Ind) warned that people in Nenagh who lost their jobs and are temporarily on the Pandemic Unemploymet Payment are in danger of becoming homeless through no fault of their own.
