Musical Theatre Academy Nenagh group at the Twilight competition.

Nenagh dancers are Twilight champions!

On May 4th and 5th, a troop from Musical Theatre Academy Nenagh headed to the Twilight Dance Competition in the South Court Hotel, Limerick.

Dance Schools from all over Ireland were in  attendance, with there being over 600 entries between solos, duets, trios and groups, and it being  the highest standard of competition in Ireland.

The Academy brought 38 students from the ages of 8-18, most of them competing for the first time in a purely dance competition. High profile judges included Ricky Jinx, recently seen on BBC One’s ‘The Greatest Dancer’, and Robbie Mulrey, seen on American TV Show ‘Dance Moms’. The Academy took the overall title of Twilight Champions for the highest scoring routine in a  duet/trio or group of the whole competition for their ‘Billy Elliot Tap’ routine. It took first place out of 280 duets/trios and group entries, as well as Elite Gold, which stands for the highest mark you can get, and also overall first place category champions.

On top of this, their junior and senior groups also received five sets of Gold Medals, two sets of Silver Medals, as well as two first place Category Champions ranking, one second place N Category Champions ranking, one third place Category Champions ranking, and one fourth place Category Champions ranking. Their N Duets received two sets of Gold Medals and two First Place Category Champions ranking. Their solos received two Golds and a Bronze.

They worked extremely hard for the past few weeks, enduring long rehearsal days along with their teacher Stephanie Browne and administrator Susan Cunneen to perfect these routines. MTAN  owner/teacher Stephanie said: “I am so proud of all of our students. To come away with such high
rankings in a extremely high standard of competition, with a lot of them competing for the first time in a purely dance competition, is amazing.”
