Denis Hogan GAINS The Advantage in Listowel finale

Cloughjordan trainer Denis Hogan captured the 2026 GAIN The Advantage Series title following a dramatic final leg on Monday on day two of the Listowel Harvest Festival.

Arriving at the Listowel, Wicklow handler Peter Lawlor and Kilkenny trainer Richard Donohoe were tied at the top of the leaderboard with 12 points apiece, with Denis Hogan sitting in eighth place on eight points.

However, Majestic King owned by the Chomping At The Bit syndicate, took full advantage of his stall one draw to win convincingly under Daniel King. The win gave Denis Hogan an additional eight points, bringing his overall tally to 16 points to secure the prestigious industry crown.

Fellow Tipperary trainer Andrew Slattery’s Zaraahmando took second place in the GAIN The Advantage Series Handicap race, bringing his final total to 14 points.

The six-leg industry initiative, which kicked off at Leopardstown in June and included Ballinrobe, Fairyhouse, Down Royal and Navan, concluded on Monday with the GAIN The Advantage Series Handicap at the Kerry festival. With several trainers within striking distance of the crown, the final leg provided a thrilling finale in front of a packed Listowel crowd.

By clinching the overall title, Denis Hogan took home €5,000 worth of GAIN Equine Nutrition products.

The series finale at Listowel also triggered much sought after prizes for the broader team behind the scenes.

Westmeath’s Oliver Donlon, who bred Numidia, who won the Down Royal leg, was selected as the winning breeder of the draw for one tonne of GAIN feed.

The winning grooms from each race in the series, were all entered a separate draw for a €250 Mount Juliet Estate voucher, with Mel Sheridan, groom of the Listowel winner on Monday, coming out on top.

Now in its sixth year, the GAIN The Advantage Series continues to recognise and reward the contribution of trainers, breeders and stable staff across the Irish racing industry.

The series continues to follow its established format, with trainers earning points for wins and placings at each leg. Points are allocated through a grading system based on the number of winners recorded by each trainer during the 2026 season, ensuring a competitive and balanced league throughout the series.
