Templemore School is successful at the Aviva

St. Colmcille’s Primary School, Templemore were celebrating at the FAI Schools Primary 5s National Finals at the Aviva Stadium.

In the Boys ‘B’ section, they netted wins in their opening two games, firstly against Gaelscoil Adhamhnáin from Letterkenny 5-3 with Tommy Bourke scoring four while John Maher grabbed the other.

In round 2, St Colmcille’s defeated Scoil Eanna, Bullaun (Galway) 4-1 with Bourke adding two to his tally with Maher and Alex Russell also on target.

St. Colmcille’s from 2-2 with SN Mhuire, Barntown from Wexford in their final game with Bourke bringing his tally to seven goals in three games while Alex Russell scored for the second game in a row. with the goals for the Saints while David Cummins and Ethan Grant equalled the scoring tally for SN Mhuire.

It all meant the Tipp school finished their campaign on seven points while their nearest rivals were Bullaun and Barntown with four points each.

What a day for Tommy Bourke as he was selected as the Player of the Tournament with his goalscoring prowess evident to see, scoring in every game with seven goals.

Tipperary were also represented by Cloneen NS in the Girls ‘A’ Cup, where they started off with a 2-1 win over Kilbeg NS with Alanna Slattery’s brace cancelling out Abbie Jackson’s strike as Cloneen enjoyed an opening round win.

They drew 1-1 with Lankill NS with Áine O’Halloran on target for the South Tipp save.

In their crucial third game, Cloneen lost 2-0 to Gaelscoil Cois Feabhail.

This year the FAI 5’s programme featured 1,961 schools with a total of 47,760 children participating which was a new record for the Primary 5s Programme, which has been in existence since the mid-1990s.

The 32 qualifying teams from 29 schools had come through four months of fun filled nationwide activity.

The journey began with their local County events, Regional and / or Provincial qualifiers to reach this stage of the competition with huge excitement at the climax of the competition.

The 256 children who were lining out, put in some stylish performances in front of a crowd of over 2,000 supporters.
